ICON Digital Radar converts analog radar into digital radar
PROs:
1) Tunnels & Bridges (sees object inside)
2) Open Lane ( distinguishes objects in parallel lanes)
3) Separates Objects (sees pedestrian walking by guardrail as distinct)
4) Detect Low Lying Object (tire or wheel laying on roadway)

Great technology raising the bar for seeing different objects!

Interesting that the video says that this is capable of level 4 and 5 autonomous driving. I thought that this was something that only Lidar would be capable of. I wonder how digital radar compares to Lidar in price.

I was curious because I saw the first video posted on this page was from last August. I was wondering why other companies weren't using it until Magna said that Fisker will be first. I guess that Magna is still working on it. Very exciting.

Official: Pedestrian Detection Is Useless In The Dark

Previously the reserve of luxury cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) has since been introduced to more mainstream vehicles and has mitigated numerous collisions. While beneficial, the technology isn't perfect.

"In all light conditions, the study found that crash rates for pedestrian crashes were 27% lower for vehicles equipped with pedestrian AEB than it was for unequipped vehicles. Injuries were also 30% lower. However, when looking at accidents that occurred on poorly-lit roads at night, there was no difference in crash risk for vehicles equipped with or without the safety feature."
I can't wait to see how Magna's digital radar tests.
