I’m proud to say I drive a Kia Sorento, and also this is my second Kia Sorento in 10 years. A superb vehicle. I smile every time I get in it, and I’ve been smiling in this vehicle for over 5 years now. Not one time did it or it’s predecessor let me down. Not once.
One thing I can't stand is brand snobs. I buy the car based on its merits, whether it's "luxury" or "volume" brand, I don't care. Kia/Hyundai/Genesis are pretty great vehicles these days. The EV6 rides better and has a nicer interior than my Tesla (though some would say that's not says much!)

BTW, the IONIQ 6 just got announced:

2022 JDPower IQS was just announced. Two of the top 5 brands are Genesis and Kia. Seems like something for them to be proud about.

That car must be fast as it needs two spoilers! The dimensions just seem off; it just doesn't look right. It may be one of those cars that looks better in person than in photos.

🤢🤢 god that is yougly…lets use the back end of an Infinity circa 1997, with the side from a minivan and the glass from a greenhouse..

There’s a reason I guess for brand snobs- you seldom see anything this bad coming from them (excluding the pignose grilles on the beemers and the square bread wagon shape of the big mercedes and infinity SUV’s.).
eek.

I'd not consider them comparable for us. The EV9 is said to be comparable with the Kia Telluride, so I'd expect it to be 7- or 8-passenger. Much bigger than we need. If anything, the Hyundai-family EV most likely to get our attention is the IONIQ 6, though we would also be happy with an IONIQ 5. But we'd not be interested in the EV9 - though I wish it well, and applaud Kia for coming out with a full-sized SUV.

Seeing as the the EV9 is set to come out in 2023 with the starting price of $50k, does this give you a bit of a pause if your going after the Ocean Ultra that's $50k also? I bive the Extreme and the One edition is coming out first so the Ultra might be coming out the same time as the EV9. As much as I like the Ocean design and that extra 50miles of range over the EV9 I'm thinking that 3rd row of the EV9 might push me towards it. My only concern is we don't have much other details such as standard options that might push the price up including dealer markups. The next 2 years is going to be interesting with so much competition coming out.
No, but the new Chevy Equinox on the Ultium platform, 300 mile range, nicely appointed under $40k does.

I have a Telluride now, so the EV9 seemed like the logical EV choice, but the Ocean is sized better, looks better, and likely has better performance. The EV9 it is too big for me at this point. The Telluride has been flawless, and I've owned it since May 2019, but the Kia dealership experience is as bad or worse than you can imagine, particularly in the buying experience. The direct-to-consumer sales model was a big deciding factor for the Ocean versus dealing with a Kia (or any) dealership again. Kia does excel in giving you excellent value/features for the money so look for the EV9 to be a solid contender in the 3 row midsize SUV segment.

Ocean is significantly smaller than the EV9. If you consider the trunk space, EV9 will probably have 2.5-3 times as big cargo space. The Sorento PHEV has 45 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row seats, which is twice as much as the Ocean’s cargo space.

No the price of options is making me think twice though. I bet the EV9 will come with adaptive cruise standard instead of charging you $6k. And I doubt wheels will cost over $3k.
I don't know that the EV9 will have wheel options. The EV6 doesn't, so far as I know, and I just went to the Telluride configurator and can't find any wheel options there.

You have to go up-trim to get the larger weels (for both EV6 and Telluride).

I think we will be more like to encounter a unicorn than a 300 mile equinox under $40k. With the 300 mile Blazer starting at $52k, I think getting a similar range equinox under $40k (MSRP) is not going to happen. A 250 mile Equinox for mid-30s is possible (especially if they kill off the Bolt).

The production version to be unveiled Jan 12th.

"The production EV9 will retain the concept’s overall dimensions, although its design will be different and more toned down. The concept was almost 5 meters (197 inches) long and it rode on a 3.1-meter (122-inch) wheelbase, which should give it ample room inside for all three rows of seats, as well as plenty of headroom given the vehicle’s height."

"Rumors suggest the EV9 and other larger E-GMP-based vehicles (like the Hyundai Ioniq 7) will have around 100 kWh, good for a range of just under 500 km (310 miles) on one charge."

"The EV9 is expected to enter production towards the end of 2023 and there’s a strong chance Kia will offer more than one battery pack option, as well as a rear-wheel drive base version as the most affordable entry point."

Reporter in UK saying the will cost "up to £70,000." If that is top-level spec, One would guess entry level at ~£55,000+ and US pricing at $60k - $80k

KIA excels at giving you more for less so expect the EV9 to be a great value. But, the dealer/buying experience is atrocious. I've decided to pass on an EV9 even though I'm a current Telluride owner. The attitude is and likely will be...hey you don't want it with a 10K "market adjustment" someone else will take it. For the Telluride, dealers were taking orders, and when the car arrived, marking it up anyhow, take it or leave it. Expect the same with the EV9. The Ocean advantage, at least on the purchase end, is direct to consumer sales.

FWIW my experience with Kia dealership is same. Horrible.
