I recently helped a friend get her car wrapped. The local pro told me anyone who might want to get a new car wrapped should order black as the OEM paint and not white, as white becomes more instantly visible at any possible edges while black tends to "disappear" and is more forgiving. A different point of view, but possibly worth considering.
I understand where is coming from but you shouldn't have any visible edges if you're tucking in your edges and corners and then cutting. Interesting nonetheless. Some food for thought.

@HotIce Since you have loads of expertise in this area... one of the color combos I have been seriously thinking about is black on black with 22" F5 black air gliders and a matte PPF wrap. What do you think?

I should have said PPF is mostly clear glossy and matte. Suntek, Xpel, Llumar, 3M don't have color PPF for their popular lines. Xpel and Llumar have a specialty blackout PPF. Color PPF is fairly new and not commonly used. There are some off brands that offer color infused PPF, but it's harder to find installers that do them. I haven't seen any in my area (a couple dozen PPF installers).

He's talking about inside the door frames and areas where the vinyl wrap is not installed. Yes, black is the best base color for a vinyl wrapped car. There are some installers that will cover every painted surface, but that's extremely expensive.

I think it's going to look absolutely fantastic especially with the black F5's. What other options were you thinking of?

If he's referring to things like door jambs, then I absolutely disagree. You don't drive with your doors open so nobody is going to see the jambs 99.9% of the time. Now, if it bothers you as an owner then that's a different story. I guess it depends on what someone's preferences/priorities are.

So, as someone who has never done anything like this, am i safe to assume a PFF wrap is a bit pricey (3-5k?)? Just wondering as i'm trying to figure out how to keep my 2 yr old from rubbing his bike and scratching the car!

Yes, a full PPF is about $4-6k. Full front in the $2-3k ballpark. As far as kids stuff goes, when my kids where small, I kept all of their stuff in the third garage, so not next to any cars. (Helps to have a three car garage). No worries now, one is a HS senior and the other is in college.

It is sad, really. I like the stealth black above but also really like the silver with Silver F5s and Sea Salt. There is a reason HF chose that as a show car, it really makes the lines pop IMO. OTOH if the sea grass if it were available… I think it looks fantastic with black wheels and will be different. I had dismissed the horizon gray until we saw it on the production line a few weeks ago and it looks to have an very interesting depth I’ve not seen on gray before. Wife like HF’s blue planet and she will probably steal the car as soon as it arrives, so maybe I will get that for her and keep the Rivian R1S I have on order but do not need. As I said, it is sad. Never had an issue with car colors before!

Is a third garage less expensive than a full PPF?

Hello all. Have a reservation put down and would like the Matte blue version. I wonder how matte paint will hold up in new england winters (is it a good idea at all?!) and if Fisker will deliver to NH next year!
In a similar situation... live in VT, have a reservation for an Ocean One... really like the Big Sur Blue, but worried that it will be a major PITA. Did you come to a conclusion about this paint for a car in New England? Maybe add a matte/satin 3M wrap to it?

I think it comes down to how “involved” you are in the care of your vehicle. A real hands-on type who is forever washing/dusting/vacuuming their cars and keeps them clean will be ok. If you are more of a “wash once a month or after a bird strike” type and relies on the drive thru carwash rather than washing at home, it will probably be a costly investment..

You tend to have a lot of rock salt/sand spread on the roads in the NE and both of those are murder on paint jobs unless promptly -and properly-removed.

Thanks for the reply. I totally understand the high maintenance issue, but don't want to pass on the high end paint option for the Ocean One. What do you think about wrapping it with a 3M protective satin film? Easier to take care with the wrap... and, if I relocate from New England in the coming few years (to a more reasonable climate), maybe I can just remove the wrap.

Do you know if wrapping the matte metallic finish will be problematic for the paint? Maybe the adhesive will be difficult to remove at a later date?

3M and XPEL have PPF for matte paint. It’s the first thing I would do honestly. If your car gets a scratch, you can’t buff it out. Fixing it is an even bigger nightmare and can be very costly.

Thanks! My local certified 3M installer asked if these films are available pre-cut from 3M. Any idea if this is going to be available as pre-cut ?

Live free or die!! Glad another NHer in on the Ocean! I just hope that NH dealer laws don’t get in the way of financing and/or flexee lease. Couldn’t lease the M3 in NH. 🤣

Just got my lock for One #3470 Mariana and decided against matte BSB since I live in central NH, where a Nor'easter is due tomorrow. Winter is always still here in March and basically is 5 months. So now I am thinking of how to best protect my Mariana metallic. In the past, I have applied DIY Zaino products to get that deep wet look, and have done up to 3-4 layers per season with fantastic results. But now I cannot put in such effort, and am wondering about 3rd party ceramic coating. Do I do PPF on front, and ceramic overall? Who does this in NH?
