Yeah, it's pretty easy for us in the Tesla at this point.Going to Mammoth is my biggest worry about getting rid of the Tesla. There are very few CCS locations on 395 with only one real location between Mojave and Bishop; and that location (Coso Junction) seems scary. Still no CCS locations in Mammoth (and barely any J1772 options either). I am planning on taking the ID.4 up next time to see how it goes. If the ID.4 can handle it, the extra 100 mile range will make it a no brainer.
Honestly, the Coso Jct spot doesn't seem as sketchy to me as the Inyokern Tesla charger, but we usually drive up early in the morning. We have our schedules set up for 3 day weekends every other week, so we are usually hitting the charging spots in the daylight. I think a CCS right where the 395 and 14 meet would be great. Also, they really need one in Mammoth Lakes. With the Tesla I can usually arrive with around 15%, then after skiing the day we arrive we will head down to charge and get groceries at the grocery outlet. If not, we'll go get coffee and maybe some pasteries at Looney Bean and charge while we do that. We can usually leave Mammoth with at least 50-60% battery, often more.
With a non-Tesla vehicle that will mean a much longer charge in Bishop. It's definitely not ideal for efficiency, but hopefully it will work. Electify America has to be looking towards putting one in Mammoth Lakes, or at least I hope they are.
I do know Tesla chargers will be opened up to non-Tesla vehicles, but I don't know how long, or what the logistics will be, before that happens.
I'm curious to see how the ID.4 does.
