"The battery has a range of over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) on a single charge and is 13 percent more powerful than one planned by Tesla, a major customer. The battery also charges faster than existing cells, and is safer and more durable, CATL said."

I guess it's safe to assume that this is what will be powering the Ronin.

Thanks for the link to CATL's new battery....

The new battery, called Qilin, will boost volume utilization rates to 72 percent, the world's highest, versus 50 percent for its first-generation battery launched in 2019.
It wil also increase the battery system's energy density to 255 Wh/kg.

That was interesting to me because that's 13% more than the 4680 cell batteries and that's a new pack design. Technology is evolving at an amazingly fast rate.

This is true that battery, and tech advances so quickly it is hard to keep up. Whenever these new batteries become available bet the prices of the vehicles will go up about 10% as well lol.

Very true, lol. Before the pandemic and all of the supply shortages, we saw pricing for batteries decline but all of that has been wiped away now. I really hope that we start seeing prices start to decline again soon and EV's become more affordable for better mass adoption. Not everyone can afford a car that's $60,000+ dollars.

This battery will be in the ocean. This is how they can have such a good battery warranty.
No, it won't. It states in the article that the battery is going into production next year. If we do see it implemented, I think it's going to be awhile when the Ocean gets a bit of a spruce up. I doubt it's going to be cost effective to put that in an Ocean immediately.

Fisker is saying that the Ocean will get 350 miles max. CATL is talking 600 miles for this new battery. That's why I'm thinking that it'll go in the Ronin first.

That’s just a max range. Like all batteries, it’s scalable. The efficiency improves cost per mile of range, which is why I don’t think cost is an issue with these.

plus, how could they support that warranty without updated tech, it wouldn’t make sense.

Originally when I read your comment I thought it outlandish just based on timing of the new tech's release. Then I thought about it a little more, and quickly googled the new tech. It comes in both LFP and NCM packs just like the Ocean. Fisker has commented time and time again that he specifically waited to sign a battery manufacturer to ensure the latest technology gets into the Ocean. It would make sense these more efficient batteries would be necessary to get the 340-350 mile ranges. Especially if the Ocean is only expected to have an 80Kwh pack. The EV6 and Ionic 5 have a 77 kwh pack, less powerful motors, and arguably a slightly more aerodynamic designs and they still don't get close to the same estimated range. There may be other reasons for this but either way, I no longer think the answer to whether these will be in the ocean is as clear cut. Good news is we should be finding out within the next month right? I know the configurator is supposed to be updated in soon but does anyone know of any planned events by Fisker? I imagine when they release these details it will likely be in a well marketed splashy fashion.

Very interesting insights. It is true that even Henrik has said the Ocean just like any SUV type vehicle is not an efficient design (from an aerodynamic standpoint) and the way that combat that is a big efficient battery. When asked more about the battery, he said he could not speak to that yet. This could be why if they are going to be one of the first vehicle with this CATL battery type.

The current official date for the new configurator is September of this year. No idea what kind of info the folks ordering a One will get beyond what we know now.

It would be fabulous to have the latest greatest CATL battery in the Ocean....time will tell.

P.S. Welcome to the Oceanforum. Very insightful first post.

Thank you. I have been lurking for a few weeks after reserving and trying to find out additional information to the questions I had about the Ocean. When I began my search I originally wrote it off as an option, but the more research I did the more I kept seeing boxes checked in the ocean that weren't in other EVs. Living in central Canada, there are still a lot of questions I have as to whether the Ocean will meet my needs, but at least I am in queue now and have time to see how it unfolds.
