This is actually the car I wanted the most before I settled on the Ocean. But $68k (for the performance AWD) is just too steep for what you get here IMO. The range being 248 and the performance being about that of a base model Y. After contacting the single local dealer in my area, they were clear they were not getting very many and would be subject to a market adjustment too. So that made it completely out of the question, unfortunately.

Wireless charging though. Sure it wastes a bit of power but still pretty neat.
Yeah it is neat for sure but really just a novelty until it is widespread. I can imagine this reducing obvious hardware (could be under the parking spot), less failure points, and just a seamless park and charge experience. Kind of not worth setting up at home unless you are so lazy, that you could not be bothered to plug in. It is probably 10 years away from being commonplace.

BMW tried making it mainstream but they didn't get very far.

Its not much of a hassle to plug my phone in either, but now that I haven't for a long time my entitled brain starts getting all uppity. A seamless drive and charge option would be very neat though if it could ever be affordable.

I think wireless charging will eventually take over. After all, who will plug in your car when it autonomously parks itself?

There are a few great cases for inductive charging. Universal Studios Hollywood is converting their tour trams to BEV. They have inductive charging pads installed at the beginning of the tour. Every time the tram stops to unload/load the tour, the vehicle charges up. This is also a good option for public transportation where it can charge each time the bus stops to drop off and pick up passengers.

Another technology that will be a great step forward is wireless charging roads. Having roads that you can charge as you drive will forever eliminate range anxiety and will also allow smaller batteries on cars. Having a car with a 100 mile range is fine if you know none of those miles will matter on freeways. It will be even more critical for long haul trucking - the truck will only need enough range for when it is off the interstate. Currently, the Tesla Semi is predicted to have a 1 MWh battery; being able to have the Semi with a 200 kWh battery but with longer "range" and no charging downtime will be revolutionary.

Ten years ago, I had my Volt star in one of the marketing videos for Plugless Power (Evatran). It was offered for the Volt, Leaf, i3, and Model S. It was fairly expensive, about $4k with installation. The company was based in Richmond VA and had their engineering office close to me in Cary, NC. They eventually were purchased by a Chinese company. They still sell the wireless system, but never really seemed to catch on. It looks like a third generation (with SAE J2954 compliance) is coming soon (though I wouldn't bet on it).
