Tesla Model 3/Y to lose steering wheel stalks.

I'm interested to hear what you guys think about a stalkless car or if Fisker brought a stalkless Ocean? I know it would probably annoy me because the turn signals don't look like they're in an intuitive position.

God i hate that stupid yolk. That’s what non driving enthusiasts think driving enthusiasts would want.
Yoke is an option now.

Proving that elon doesn't actually know better than everyone else, despite what he thinks.

Right, but even when choosing a "regular" wheel it'll come without stalks and still with the dumb indicator buttons.

I’m happy about it. At least, maybe, it will keep the value of my 2021 Model Y from collapsing through the floor.

That, and the sensors! I rented a M3 last month that didn't have the parking sensors and the car was really bad in parking situations - it worked fine for walls but bad for anything low.

Tesla should really fire Musk. The dude is a liability. How much did he save on removing the sensors? $250, including labor?

I had a reservation on the 2023 Model Y locked at the new low price, but I canceled it within 3 weeks of making it and literally 5 days before the delivery when I realized it didn’t have the parking sensors. I did lose $250 deposit. Back then Tesla Vision wasn’t even enabled yet for parking, so there was literally no system to alert you of about to hit a wall. It was like a car made before the turn of the century. For comparison, my 2006 Lexus GS 300 (made in 2005) had parking sensors: both front a rear. It also had rain-sensing wipers that worked phenomenally well. I loved that car.

Even though my 2021 Model Y’s parking sensors work really well and even tell me the distance.between the bumper and an object, the Model Y’s rain-sensing wipers based on Tesla Vision are awful.

I don't know what year Model Y I rented in Vancouver in April, but I found the rain sensing wipers to be bad. They were more frustrating than useful, so I just controlled the speed myself. I don't think I could ever find myself placing rain sensing wipers on a list of must haves. As long as I can see the road, I can see if it's raining, and how often I want the wipers to clear the windshield. I guess that's why we have options for a package to get them if we want them ;)

Rain sensing wipers are amazing when
they work well. It’s a must have for us because they adjust the wiping speed to the intensity of rain or rather the amount of water hitting the windshield. They are supposed to speed up with higher vehicle speeds and slow down with lower vehicle speeds and go to a very infrequent wipe when the vehicle is stopped at the same rain intensity.

Without rain-sending wipers, the speed of wiping is usually either too high or too low, and one has to constantly change the wiping speed, which is annoying and unnecessary. I’ve owned several vehicles with well implemented rain sensing wipers and then I owned a few without, and we always regretted not getting them.

However, the way that the Model Y / 3 implemented rain-sensing wipers is awful. And the wiper control is not even available via the stalk, so it’s infuriating as hell to drive my Model Y in the rain, as the wipers go ballistic during a light rain, making me want to immediately disable the rain-sensing feature and control them manually. But the manual control is on the screen, which is retarded altogether.

By the way, it seems that the rain-sensing desire gets improved with a software update but then gets broken again with another software update. At one point I thought the rain-sensing feature was made decent in the Model Y, but just the other day, my wipers were going crazy in a very light rain, so I had to to disable the rain-sensing wipers the other day.

That's what happens when you try to change things for the sake of changing them. Tesla doesn't use a regular rain sensor. They use the cameras with 'Deep Rain neural net'.

It sucks.

I am with you on that. I bought a model Y early this year 2023 because I just couldn't wait any longer for i4 or ocean. I am one of the unfortunate owners of model Y who were in the transition period where they removed the sensors and didn't have vision activated yet. My other cars have full suite of ultrasonic sensor, camera and top/surround view. I was able pretty quickly get accustomed to parking without the sensors but I miss them so much when driving Tesla.
And those rain sensing wipers are a joke.
Now that they have activated vision for park distance, its helpful but I don't trust it 100%.
I feel camera's have its place and its best use is the top view/surround view. You don't need sensors when you have top view.
I bought model Y fully expecting its value to tank and am ready to eat the depreciation when the ocean arrives. However, I hope Fisker ocean to have all of the Tesla deficiencies sorted out with the array of sensors, radars, camera etc. Seriously considering Cadillac Lyric after looking at it in person and i5 is going to be announced soon. A lot of choices. Fisker better be a knockout otherwise the competition is getting really tough.

Yeah, the Model Y without sensors is a no go for me. Mine is decent, but it’s got the sensors.
