For EV noobies,
here’s a typical long distance drive cost for my Tesla 3 LR
its a real eye-opener once you experience how inexpensive
it is to use the Tesla SC network.

This was just completed today by son traveling from
Toronto - New York City - Toronto over the Victoria Day weekend
(May 18-May 21, 2022). They travelled 1600 kilometers or 1000 miles
over the four day long weekend

It's even better if you have legacy free charging. I've earned a lot of free supercharger miles over the years.

Ahhh…the privilege of Model S or Model X ownership!
I was just $25,000 Cdn short….

(The Canada Model S range starts with the 75D, which has an EPA-estimated range of 416km and a $96,650 starting price before options, fees, and incentives. The 100D model ups the range to 539km and the price to $122,000.)

This thread has been quiet since May 23, 2022 but there is POSITIVE News stirring.....

"According to the Biden Administration, Tesla plans to open up its Supercharger pilot program to allow non-Tesla EV owners to charge on the network in the US.
A fact sheet from The White House noted that this may happen prior to the end of 2022."

I have a Model 3. But I earned supercharger credits for referrals.
Wow...great to know you can earn Tesla SC miles with new Tesla referrals!
Dare I say, this may be a better deal than the Fisker Inc referral program

BTW, another "Open Tesla Supercharger Network article

P.S. FYI, Tesla will charge you .50 cents per KWh when SC is at 50% capacity
and a whopping $1.00 per KWh when SC station is 100% full!

@Blu Angel …. Think you got it wrong. The pricing mentioned in the article was for idle fees and per minute, not per kWh.

“Tesla also charges idle fees to vehicles, ensuring that Supercharger stalls are always immediately available once customers finish charging. Charging fees vary by country. In the United States, Tesla charges $.50 per minute when the Supercharger station is 50% full and $1.00 per minute if the station is 100% occupied.”

BTW, Tesla charges electricity by the minute only in states where it is required by law. Everywhere else, they charge by the kWh. For example, my state used to have that law but they removed it a couple years ago.

Here's by the minute:

And Here's by the kWh:

"In an excerpt about Tesla, the White House writes will add “equipment” to Supercharger stations, enabling non-Tesla EVs to charge on the network:
Tesla is making investments at its Gigafactory in Buffalo, New York to support the deployment of new fast charging stations to add to its fast-charging network. More than 1,600 employees work at Giga New York producing the Tesla Solar Roof and Supercharger stations, which are capable of charging vehicles up to 250 kW. Tesla is expanding production capacity of power electronics components that convert alternating current to direct current, charging cabinets, posts and cables. Later this year, Tesla will begin production of new Supercharger equipment that will enable non-Tesla EV drivers in North America to use Tesla Superchargers.
The equipment is likely the CCS connectors

Y
Oops...thanks for clarifying this is the EXTRA idle fees on top of KWh charging fees

@MTN Ranger

@MTN Ranger
Thanks for displaying the .14 cents to .28 cents Tesla charges per kWh

The equipment that Tesla will be doing is adding the CCS connector. While Tesla starts to build newer stations or upgrading older ones they will start putting the dual connector stations in but will not start building the equipment for the charging stations until near the end of this year so sometime in 2023 they will start updating/building their Supercharger stations to meet the needs for all EV manufacturers.

The eventuality of Tesla Inc opening the Supercharger network to
non-Tesla owners was the final obstacle that put me "Over the Top"

I really enjoy Tesla SC network and have no desire to use other EV charging stations unless they will be super convenient to use.

I was raised to always share... but not my local supercharging station. No way. No How. Already have to wait sometimes. Now Imagine sharing it with an ever-growing number of non Tesla ev vehicles? Nope. Next!
It's going to happen no matter what you want! Tesla has to open up eventually and they will at some point switch over to CCS1. Even Nissan has quit CHAdeMO in North America. Everyone is CCS1 besides Tesla (and Aptera). Otherwise Tesla is hurting the EV movement.

You’ll be sad then - it’s coming. Elon wants the cash from the government as well as the extra revenue it will generate. Oh so sad…. 🤔

I found his statement hilarious. Something along the lines of "Furthering the cause is more important than one company's advantage". Paraphrasing of course, but got to love that PR spin. Replace 'Furthering the cause' with '$' and we have the quote from inside his head.

CA and NY are the two states with about half a dozen sites. All the stalls at those sites appear to now have Magic Dock - which is surprising.

This a great news and an incredibly elegant solution. Looking at the Tesla investor presentation today (consistent with public data from state of Texas bids) the tesla SC installed cost is running ~50% lower than competitors. It should inject much needed competition on usability, cost, and speed of deployment.

Time to pay-to-play!

As a Tesla owner for almost 5-years now I'm all for this. Will help expedite Tesla's network expansion, upgrades as well as a solid new revenue stream. 💸
