I'm a bit anxious about door handles that literally stick out of the side panels. It seems to me that it must be fragile and could break easily. I would prefer something more conventional like on the tried and tested BMW I4. When do you think?

I think product development is complete and such an integral aspect of body design is beyond a preference to change in the foreseeable future. We don't know the product validation testing requirement this door handle design had to meet, but no reason to suddenly think this is a "weak link" if you have confidence in the vehicle otherwise. Also, some things are too late to change, some (such as color offerings or adding another wheel design) are not where our comments might have more effect.

This is the second thread in the past couple of days to start out about anxiety. I am sorry to see fellow forum members feeling this distressed.

My comment was only to express my opinion and not to bitch on Fisker Ocean car, I am just questionning on what you thought about the handles. I reserved Ocean and PEAR so I am a fan dont' worry.
I would like also to see the entertainment on the cluster screen and big screen and see all the possibilies that they put on it, it could be in one or two months.

Fisker isn't the only company to have pop out door handles. Mercedes, Audi, and Tesla also have door handles that pop out. This isn't something that is new to the industry and I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think the production version will have the built in lights but I wish it did.

I'm actually excited to see and use the pop out door handle because the Model 3/Y are sometimes awkward to use, especially when you are carrying things.

I have concern as well about the handles. Not as worried about fragility as they do retract when not used but more concern about the mechanism. I know several instances that the Model S had broken mechanism and was not cheap to fix (also, the loaner I had seemed to be hit or miss on the handles presenting themselves when approaching the car). [And yes, I am well aware of Tesla having an issue does not translate to other vehicles having issues.]

I do like the M3 handles but have also learned to be able to open the with just one finger when I am carrying items.

I have no issue with them. So many OEMs are offering pop out handles now, that it is becoming normal.

I've had a TMS and the door handles were terrible (as rest of the car). Changed two of them myself as Tesla refused to do it on warranty. Often stuck during winter. Same story about the i-Pace I now have, but better than the Tesla. Silicone spray before winter sets in helps a bit.

i4 handles are superb, but as some said; to late to change now.

Looks like you may have gotten your wish. All of the latest prototypes show regular door handles and not flat/presenting ones…
Do you have any photos? I haven't seen new handles.

I'd prefer regular door handles. Retracting/flush handles do look awesome, but both of our cars are parked outdoors and, living here in the great state of Snow York, there's a high probability of freezing over. I regularly have difficulty getting iced-over doors open with conventional/mechanical handles...I'd hate to think how much fun that would be with retracting handles. I've watched enough Tesla owners with hair dryers pointed at their door handles to know that sometimes function over form is the smart way to go.

Fisker responded today: "The Fisker Ocean will have pop-out door handles for its production model version. The vehicles out currently are our pre-production models intended for testing purposes and are not 100% representative of the production model set to come out this November."

Guess I better start clearing space in the garage for my wife to park her Ocean indoors during the winter. :D

Or just use the climate preconditioning. The one time I had cold enough weather in the last four years, I just used preconditioning for 15 minutes and the door handle worked fine. Most of the time, I park in a garage at home and work.
