I was a big fan of Android Auto and a smaller fan of CarPlay (even though CarPlay got much better as of late). But then I bought a Model Y and after using the onboard infotainment, I no longer believe that the AA/CP are necessarily a must have in a vehicle.
AA/CP came to existence because of how awful the infotainment systems by car manufacturers had been. However, the Tesla system is very decent, and I do not miss AA/CP in the Tesla. In fact, I am a lot less distracted when driving in the Tesla because I am not as tempted to interact with multiple apps in the car when I drive.
I’ve never seen Android Automotive, but I think the experience is a mix of the Tesla system and Android Auto, which I think is more than sufficient. I just don’t think that the majority of Ocean owners would bother to use AA/CP as along as the onboard infotainment experience is as good as or better than that of Tesla.
