Henrik said that Fisker has done all of the foundational work and would add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto if customers wanted it. I would like to take a poll and tag Henrik on Instagram or LinkedIn with the results. Poll will run for seven days.

Do Fisker customers want Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

As long as the UI is functioning properly and not complicated, OE UI is ok. But I voted yes.
I definitely want CarPlay (wireless too). Much easier to stay in the same UI as phone/iPad/computer etc.

Can you add an option “poorly implemented CarPlay is fine for people renting as long as they have a real integrated system”?

I'm good with that as long as having carplay ro AA doesn't become an obligation to use them for all the features I want in the vehicle. AA/CP will probably never support playing videos either.

CarPlay and AA offer also other options like third-party apps. I do have an app which provides me a very good overview of local charging stations, the current occupancy status, best rates of the different providers.
There is a local app for providing parking tickets.
Siri can answer my messages.
These apps will not be available for Fisker as they are a closed shop. There are a lot of reasons of having AA or CarPlay

I was a big fan of Android Auto and a smaller fan of CarPlay (even though CarPlay got much better as of late). But then I bought a Model Y and after using the onboard infotainment, I no longer believe that the AA/CP are necessarily a must have in a vehicle.

AA/CP came to existence because of how awful the infotainment systems by car manufacturers had been. However, the Tesla system is very decent, and I do not miss AA/CP in the Tesla. In fact, I am a lot less distracted when driving in the Tesla because I am not as tempted to interact with multiple apps in the car when I drive.

I’ve never seen Android Automotive, but I think the experience is a mix of the Tesla system and Android Auto, which I think is more than sufficient. I just don’t think that the majority of Ocean owners would bother to use AA/CP as along as the onboard infotainment experience is as good as or better than that of Tesla.

Rivian looks to be a good implementation with AAOS and no AA/CP (a few very squeaky wheels on that on the Rivian Forums). It offers another example to check out vs. Polestar which seems to have struggled with its software. (I personally like what I have used of the Rivian software but I have not spent a lot of time with it.)

I have kids who enjoy listening to music. So Amazon Music is what I subscribed to. The kids like asking Alexa what to play. So as long as I continue to use Amazon Music, I'll go with whatever platform supports it. The wife swears by Google Maps. If that is not supported, then there is going to be some friction in the family.

I admittedly have a bit of a bias given my position at TuneIn, but I personally do not see the need to have it. That said - I recognize there are many prospective buyers out there that feel strongly about the option so not having it in some capacity is probably not the most prudent path forward.

That said - there are legitimate reasons why these legacy Autos are going this route on their own, as evidenced by GM's latest hire: General Motors Hires Former Apple Executive to Lead Software After Announcing Plans to Nix CarPlay

I think this is the wrong question.

Some customers want Carplay/Android Auto that much is clear. They are likely basing that view on experience of the UI on previous cars in comparison to CP/AA and that for their needs the native UI isn't good enough. They have no idea whether the same will be true of the Fisker UI or not, because no-one has really been able to play with it properly to see how it works. CP/AA may be better for them (at least it will be something they are more familiar with) but it may not - only time will tell.

Other customers don't care. I've had a Kia Soul with AA and CP support, but have never used it. The inbuilt UI is good enough for everything I need to do - navigate, control media and climate control. I suspect that the same will be true for the Fisker UI, for me.

I would like to have Google Maps as an option, but I'm really hoping TomTom maps will be at least satisfactory.

My primary concern is potentially getting locked into a limited ecosystem and missing out on Android Auto / CarPlay features as those ecosystems mature.

I'm not making any judgments right now, but I do have some reservations/hesitations not having Android Auto / CarPlay as a guaranteed option.

I want Apple Car Play available to use to play music, make calls from my iPhone, as it is a predictable experience that works, based on my experience with it on my BMW 330i — where I can toggle back and forth between car play and the BMW’s system UI.
If CP is not available, I would at least want Apple Music present as a streaming music source on the Fisker Ocean.

I’d like the option of Apple car play at least but I think having as many people as possible (to start off with) use the built in system, gives you the largest possible user base for feedback and ability to tweak and update. It’s Fisker’s (in this guise) first car and so feedback on the experience will be vital going forward.
